Cookies and website storage
Published 20th October 2026.
This page explains storage used to operate the website.
What cookies do
A cookie is a small item of information stored by your browser. Similar rules can apply to other methods of storing or accessing information on a device. Cookies may support a requested function, such as signing in or remembering access to a protected page. They are not all used for advertising or visitor tracking.
Functions that may require storage
- Signing in: Our website uses authentication and session cookies for authorised users. Login testing and interface preferences can also involve cookies. These are associated with using the login or administration functions.
- Password-protected pages: Our website can store a cookie after you enter a page password so that the browser can maintain access. Clearing it may require you to enter the password again.
- Security and reliable operation: the hosting and security configuration may use storage to protect a requested service or ensure it operates correctly. We assess each purpose separately rather than treating everything labelled “security” as automatically exempt from consent.
Your controls
You can view, block or remove cookies using your browser settings. Blocking storage needed for a requested function may prevent signing in or maintaining access to a protected page. Browser controls usually affect that browser and device, rather than every device you use.
The “About cookies on this website” panel in our footer provides a quick explanation. It does not record consent, enable tracking or store a preference. Necessary functions are not presented as optional choices that can be switched off while continuing to promise the same function.
Optional technologies
We are not introducing optional analytics, advertising tags or session recording in this release. If we introduce a technology requiring consent, it must remain inactive until the relevant consent is given. Any future controls will explain the purposes, offer a clear refusal option and allow preferences to be changed. Where a particular statutory exception applies, its conditions and any required objection mechanism must be met.
